Verdi Club Society Membership Aspirations
When the club was officially chartered in 1918, it was a priority to expand the membership in order to have the largest impact on the Rockford area community. Currently, the Giuseppe Verdi Club has approximately 500 loyal members who frequent the club on a normal basis.
The Verdi would like to expand this membership in order to bring even more fellowship to its member community. In fact, it is a goal of the club to target younger men that are eligible for membership so that they can become tenured members of the club in the future.
Who Can Become a Member?
l. Any male person who has attained the age of twenty-one years and who is Italian or who is of Italian descent or whose mother or father is of Italian descent shall be entitled to apply for membership in this Society.
2. Any male person who is not Italian or of Italian descent, who has reached the age of twenty-one years, who has resided for a period of one year in Winnebago County; Illinois, and who is the husband or son of a member of the Giuseppe Verdi Auxiliary shall be entitled to apply for membership in this Society.
3. It is NOT required for a prospective applicant to be Italian! Upon due application, the Society may elect to the Society as a Social-Member any male person otherwise not eligible to membership in the Society who is twenty-one years of age and resident for a period of one year in Winnebago County, Illinois, who hereafter shall be referred to as a Social Member. Social Members are eligible to vote for, and run for the position on the social member council only.
Becoming a Member
To gain admittance to this Society; an application blank must be secured from the Dues-Secretary; the applicant must be sponsored by two members of the Society and application accompanied by the initiation fee set Forth in the By-Laws, shall be submitted to the Dues-Secretary. After the application is approved, the Dues-Secretary shall notify the applicant to present himself to the next regular meeting of the Society. The application shall be read at that meeting of the Society and the President shall offer a motion proposing the applicant’s admission to membership at which time a vote will be taken. lf the applicant receives ten unfavorable votes, his application is rejected and he cannot become a member of this Society. His initiation fee shall be returned and he shall not be eligible to apply again for membership for a period of one year. lf the vote is favorable, then he must take his oath of membership by the third meeting.
This process of becoming a member is relatively simple and fun! If you are interested, then we strongly encourage you to visit the club during the monthly member meeting which is held on the second Tuesday of each month. Meeting time is 7:00 PM. Please arrive about 30 minutes early to fill out a new member application and we would be more than happy to proceed with the new member process for you. We will see you soon!
